Weathering Winter

The Winter Garden at the Auckland Domain is a treasure of great historic interest. It was designed in the early 1900s in the style of the famous English partnership of Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jeckyll and opened in 1913. The Winter Garden is home to many rare and spectacular specimen of plants with its two core Victorian style glass houses with an extensive exterior courtyard with a water fountain pool. One of the glass house is heated due to the collection of lush tropical plants whilst the other is much more dependent on the plants and the seasons of the year. The project concept is to create a type of weather pavilion which connects the concepts of weathering and changing seasons with the winter garden.
